About the Book
"My Dog is a Hog!" is the latest children's book by JS Silverstein that celebrates our very best friend.
Join us on a journey through time, expressed through rhythm and rhyme, in a way never before seen in
print!
See how some things have changed... while some things haven't.
Throughout the ages, dogs have been with us, begging for that treat,
Because, since the Beginning, dogs LOVE to eat, and eat, and eat...
Project Brief
The goal of this project was to create a children's book with vivid illustrations of dogs throughout
different ages in history. We leveraged the power of AI to generate the primary images in oil painting
style. I edited these images in Photoshop to enhance their legability as well as provide enhancements
and edits.
We wanted to give the book a refreshing and relatable brand to our readers. We needed to craft a logo
and cover image that was instantly relatable and recognizable to fellow dog and animal lovers.
Brand
I created the book's brand identity and overall theme.
I wanted the logo to also function as the cover title text for the book to further reinforce the
brand identity recognition.
The logo features Dog and Hog as the primary focus, also to parallel the rhyming between the 2
words.
For an added graphical element, a dog paw and bone are shown in the counterspaces of the Os in
the logo.
The Paw represents the Dog, and the bone represents the Hog, and how dogs are always hungry,
waiting for their next bone or treat.

Cover Design
We wanted the cover to immediately portray the story in a single image.
The image illustrates a Bernese Mountain Dog running away from the boy with a hot dog in its
mouth. The boy reaches for it as he chases the dog.
The interplay of colors, bright blue sky, the dynamics of the chase, and the fusion of canine chaos and companionship make this cover an artful embodiment of the story's essence:
My Dog is a Hog!
Full front and back covers: Both covers show elements from the same summer BBQ scene.
A relaxed summer day with a bright blue sky. Everything is grand except... yup, dog, hot dog in mouth in pursuit.
Page Design
This first inside illustration continues the story that started on the front cover.
After the dog and boy enter the cave, the dog notices the origins of mans first friendship with dog. When fellow humans gave them food of course!
My Dog is a hog... he always wants more. Suddenly we are transported back in time to 8,000 BCE, and the rest is history.
This spread (not peanut butter!) appears at the end of the book, and serves as a historical reference for the various images and time periods featured in the book.
This collage appears at the end of the book as well, and acts as a cozy tribute to humankind's friendship with dogs.
Most of these images are AI generated. Can you spot the 2 that aren't?

Website design
I created the book website to be responsive first, as most users will likely access the mobile version
first.
Users are greeted with a large banner of a blue sky with our logo primarily featured in the center.
Customers can quickly purchase the book via one of the available links: Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
