Where in the World is my Other Sock?
Book design, graphics, motion design and more
My Responsibilities
Book editing, graphic design, website design, video design/motion graphics, supporting illustrations.
Timeline
May 2020 - March 2022
Brief
In The May of 2020 my dad and I decided to work on a children's book.
We both shared the similar struggle of looking for our other socks (and were sure others too!) We wanted to craft a new story about this universal mystery: Where in the world do your missing socks go?
We worked together with illustrators to create our children's book: "Where in the World is My Other Sock?!"
It's about a girl named Priscilla who just can't find her missing socks, but her mom doesn't believe her story!
Book Design
Cover Design
We wanted the cover to immediately portray the story in a single image.
Priscilla sits on her bed in frustration of her missing sock!
We directed the artists to illustrate the scene in a fish-eye perspective, further
dramatizing the scene.
I added my own embellishments and refinements to the artist's
artwork, including enhanced shading and adding refined details throughout the book.
Front Cover
Back Cover
I illustrated the back cover to perfectly blend with the front to create a cohesive scene: Priscilla's bedroom in the morning.
Page Design
I created this illustration as a fun way for readers to
subtly enter the world of the book.
The character is not seen, however the reader already understands
the fun conflict of the story.
The reader is welcomed to the first page of the
book.
The text is set in "Tobi Pro" and placed at the top right and bottom left, leading the reader
to the next page without obstructing the illustration.
This author page appears at the conclusion of
the book.
I designed and created the illustrations for this page, including the sketches in Priscilla's journal.
Video
Together, we collaborated on producing a captivating book trailer that invites readers into Priscilla's world. First, we brainstormed a general storyboard and script. I then brought the illustrations to life by animating them, while also creating some original content of my own.
Once the video was complete, we enlisted the help of a skilled voice actress who recorded several takes in our studio. We meticulously edited, stitched, mixed, and mastered the recordings into one seamless audio file.
Website design
I created the book website to be responsive first, as most users will likely access the mobile version
first.
Users are greeted with a large banner of Priscilla searching for her sock under the bed, with the
logo set center stage.
Visitors can quickly purchase the book via one of the three available locations: Amazon, Apple Books,
and Barnes & Noble.
Brand
I also created the book's brand identity and color scheme.
I wanted the logo to also function as the cover title text for the book to further reinforce the
brand identity recognition.
I also created the logo in various versions for different applications and
media, ensuring readability and scalability.
